Ongoing Recruitment for Part-Time, Seasonal (Summer) and Temporary Applicant Pool

This is a responsible lead role assisting in directing the daily operation of a City swimming pool, including facility maintenance, procurement, record keeping, and related activities. Responsibilities include protecting life; applying or directing the application of first aid when necessary; enforcing regulations; providing staff training; planning and implementing swimming recreation programs; instructing classes on swimming and water safety; maintaining a high standard of safety, functionality, appearance and public appeal of the facilities by overseeing and participating in preventative and restorative maintenance; participating in and supervising the collection and reporting of pool fees; and serving as the primary supervisor in the absence of the assigned Swimming Pool Supervisor which may include preparing facility activity and financial reports using a computer and administrative support software. Work requires the ability to prevent dangerous situations from arising; to recognize emergencies and take appropriate action; and considerable skill in swimming, rescue work, resuscitation and first aid. This is a seasonal, part time position assigned to one of the City’s swimming pools.

Salary: $19.22 - $28.27 Hourly

To Qualify

Minimum Qualifications. Applicants must:

  • Possess a valid high school diploma or GED equivalency.
  • Possess at the time of application and continue to maintain current American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor, Lifeguarding Training/First Aid and CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer certifications.
  • Be able to maintain physical fitness and sufficient strength to control struggling or disabled swimmers.
  • Be able to communicate clearly and concisely.
  • Possess basic skills in the use of a computer and administrative support software to prepare correspondence and reports.
  • Successfully meet the State of Florida good moral character and Level II background screening standards (Florida State Statutes 435.01-435.06).

Desirable Qualifications. Preferred applicants:

  • Have some supervisory experience as a lifeguard at a public swimming pool.
  • Are skilled in swimming, rescue work, resuscitation and first aid.
  • Have completed the National Swimming Pool Foundation's Certified Pool Operators course.
  • Possess the American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Trainer and American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor Trainer Certificates.
  • Have considerable knowledge of the methods and techniques related to teaching swimming, water safety and lifesaving classes.
  • Are able to organize and direct the activities of swimming pool employees.
  • Have experience using ActiveNet, KRONOS, and Oracle iProcurement computer software programs.
