BACKGROUND
SiloSmashers is seeking a highly experienced Systems/Network Engineer to join its growing contract supporting a federal government agency.
The government customer requires the expertise of an experienced Systems/Network Engineer to support its multiple networking initiatives across all areas of the division. Specifically, the government customer is looking for expertise to primarily provide overall systems engineering support and some network engineering expertise for operations, network infrastructure, capacity management, reporting and IT enhancements for its systems.
Furthermore, this government agency requires expertise related to planning and implementing information technology infrastructure. This can include network administration, network access and security, IT disaster recovery planning and execution, IT inventory control, audio, video, and web conferencing and wireless services.
The Systems/Network Engineer is a matrixed role supporting multiple projects and is expected to have the wherewithal to prioritize, over-communicate, plan and tightly coordinate with a variety of stakeholders, while independently driving her/his day-to-day work to completion.
ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Systems Engineer with some networking experience
- Upgrade and troubleshoot switches and routers
- Perform switch firmware upgrades
- Maintaining overall infrastructure
- Install and connect equipment
- Proven experience with designing network topology, protocols. Security, and connectivity, based on customer business and technical requirements.
- Basic understanding of Cisco routing and switching, specifically with Cisco ISE, Cisco DNA Center,
- Ability to plan for new technology deployments (e.g. full solutioning, planning, migration, replacement of existing technology, impact to users, etc.)
- Experience with virtual private networks (VPNs) remote access solutions and internal tunneling technologies, such as Cisco AnyConnect for remote access and GRE Tunneling/DMVPNS for the internal tunneling technologies
- Troubleshooting connectivity issues (e.g. Wi-Fi)
- Experience configuring and analyzing Cisco Firepower IDS/IPS and firewalls using FMC.
- Experience supporting physical infrastructure such as racking, installation, configuration, and cabling.
- Tracking network uptime on both the backbone and administrative networks and ability to execute detailed network assessments and audits to identify existing infrastructure limitations, potential bottlenecks, and areas of improvement.
- Knowledge or experience with Virtual Switching Architecture such as VRF and VSS to support secure multi-tenant design within DMZ based virtual enclave.
- Experience with implementing or upgrading enterprise wireless solutions
- Provide network and system infrastructure reports generated to show uptime, circuit link/CPU utilization, threshold alarms, capacity of all network and system elements.
- Provides network troubleshooting, testing and updating standard code versions and device templates as well as remediating security findings. Supports migration of existing cloud access point applications. Identifies resources required for network designs, including upgrades, expansions, and enhancements (building, core, and Data Center).
- Configures and installs network hardware and software to meet requirements and conform to technical Design Standards. Provides support towards in-depth engineering analysis of alternatives for government agencies in support of their strategic modernization efforts and telecommunications.
- Support towards enhanced design for medium and large-scale telecommunication infrastructures. Provides interface support to telecommunications end users, telecommunications operations personnel, and telecommunications strategic program management. Monitors and responds to hardware, software, and network problems. Provides the routine testing and analysis of all elements of the network facilities (including power, software, communications machinery, lines, modems, and terminals). Utilizes software and hardware tools and identifies and diagnoses complex problems and factors affecting network performance. Troubleshoots network systems when necessary and makes technical improvements to the network.
- Knowledge or experience planning and coordinating non-emergency outages affecting service areas to include, but not limited to: creating timely notification of outages; maintaining physical security requirements; and maintaining both physical and logical drawings of the processors, peripheral equipment, and their connectivity.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS
- Must be a U.S. Citizen
- Bachelor's Degree & 10+ years performing systems engineering and/or networking engineering or Advanced Degree (Masters) & 6 years performing systems engineering and/or networking engineering
- Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) or
- Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) certification
PLUSES:
- Provides high level technical guidance for directing and monitoring information systems operations. Provides support in the translation of business requirements into network requirements, designs and orders. Determines feasibility, cost, network equipment needs, and time constraints/allocations for assigned projects.
