JOB SUMMARY Working under the direction of the Director of Accounting, the Property Accountant is responsible for performing general accounting work and completion of all aspects of the financial statement package for an assigned portfolio of properties/entities.
Skills The Property Accountant should be a highly motivated self-starter with strong analytical skills and understanding of accounting including financial reporting, budgeting, journal entries and accounting workflow. Position also requires strong verbal and written communication skills. Position requires the ability to communicate accounting issues and results as well as the ability to handle multiple tasks, ensure quality of work and meet deadlines in a high-growth environment.
Duties & Responsibilities Financial - Create and post journal entries, general ledger review and complete bank and balance sheet reconciliations.
- Review variances in financial statements as compared to budget and prior year; document explanation for significant items.
- Ensure all debt, property insurance, real estate tax, sales tax and owner distribution payments are made in a timely manner and internal schedules are maintained.
- Ensure financial packages are complete and delivered in a timely and accurate manner to Management and Investors.
- Assist in the preparation and review of the annual budget.
- Assist in the annual preparation of tax workpapers.
- Handle audit requests as needed.
Operational - Serve as primary accounting liaison for assigned portfolio of properties.
- Communicate with on-site and other property managers to assist in completing pre-close and close activities, answer questions, provide support and ensure completion of accounting processes for timely Company reporting.
- Work with other departments within the organization to assist and/or resolve accounting and financial issues as they arise.
- Maintain files and documentation thoroughly and accurately in accordance with company policies.
- Complete various financial, accounting, administrative and other reports and analysis as assigned or as necessary.
Other - Perform other duties as necessary.
Education and/or Experience - Bachelor's degree in accounting or business with an emphasis in Accounting preferred.
- Minimum 3 years of progressive experience in accounting or financial analysis.
- Experience of Yardi software or similar accounting software is preferred.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite; Strong in Microsoft Excel.
- Innovative team player who can multitask and work independently.
- Strong logical and analytical problem-solving skills.
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, ability to prioritize and meet deadlines.
